Automatic Delivery Prevents an Empty Tank

Written on: February 21, 2022

AFC makes sure you always have fuel.

fuel delivery maineAFC automatic delivery customers appreciate our work-free, worry-free fuel delivery services. We use the latest technology to track your previous heating oil or propane consumption as well as the present weather conditions to determine when you’ll need more fuel. We arrange delivery before you are predicted to be low on fuel.

If you are a Will-Call customer, you need to remember as well as know to how to read your propane or heating oil tank gauge. You need to know how much fuel is in your tank, so you know when to request a delivery.

Here’s how to read a heating oil tank gauge.

On top of your heating oil tank, look for the transparent plastic tube with markings on it that resemble car fuel gauge numbers: F, ¾, ½, and so on. There is a red marker or a float inside the tube that informs you how much heating oil is in the tank. We urge you to not allow your tank level to drop below 25% before requesting a delivery.

If the marker or float is at the bottom of the tube, you are very low on or out of heating oil.
If you use propane, look on your propane tank for a dial that resembles the speedometer on a car. The numbers on that dial show how full your propane tank is. If the needle is resting at 50, your propane tank is 50% full. Don’t allow your tank level to drop below 30% before contacting us to arrange a propane delivery if you use Will-Call delivery.

What happens if I run out of fuel?

The first thing to do if you’ve run out of propane or heating oil is to contact AFC right away for an emergency delivery. DO NOT email or contact us online. Call us any time of day or night. We provide emergency heating oil delivery to anyone in our service area, even if you’re not an AFC customer. For propane delivery, you must be an AFC customer. Please keep in mind that there will be an emergency delivery charge since we will have to re-route our trucks to accommodate the special request.

When you run out of propane, there’s a lot more necessary work and expense involved. After the emergency propane delivery, it is required by law that a professional service technician, like the ones at AFC, must conduct a thorough safety inspection of your gas system. A leak test, a pressure test, an inspection of your propane tank and appliances, and a professional re-lighting of all the propane appliance pilots are part of the safety check. You’re responsible for any additional costs involved with having emergency propane delivered as well as the safety check.

With Automatic Delivery, you won’t have to deal with any of this hassle or expense! You’ll never have to worry about monitoring the fuel tank gauge and requesting a delivery.

We do request that you notify AFC if you have any change in your usage. For example, if you have more people living in your home, if you have installed new propane or heating appliances, or if you have a propane generator that may be running due to a power outage. Please contact us if you have any questions about how we calculate your fuel consumption.
